2012/13 Season Preview

The 2012/2013 Season is Nigh!

I know all of our teams have been training for many weeks to prepare for the new season, which, I feel sure, will be challenging as well as an exciting one. Challenging for all of our 9 teams, because all of our senior teams will be playing in higher divisions from last year as all gained well deserved promotion, what a thriller the A team play off was, a very deserving win as we played better than Sheffield) also, all of our junior teams, two under 12, two under 14, under 16 and under 19, have to live up and exceed, their successful season last year. It really is a magnificent achievement to field two under 12 and two under 14 teams this year, the pressure will be on both players and coaches alike. Our senior teams have also seen a growth in playing numbers with some of our talented ex-juniors are returning “home” which will bring greater pressure on all players to perform to their best and team selection being a little more difficult, such is the nature of a successful club with talented players.

I do feel that the atmosphere within the club is very good with many more people being involved, both on and off the field, which is vital if we are to progress further as a club, we have the people so let’s do the job. We plan to install an underground land drain near the bottom of the first team pitch and will be completed in the next few weeks which should eliminate the 'water logging' that has blighted this area for many, many years. If this work is successful we plan to install a similar system on the pitch nearest to the clubhouse. Given the 'near monsoon' summer we have had and the condition of the pitch(s) that we may see when the winter rain comes will put great pressure on our pitches suitability for play as last season many, many games were cancelled due to unplayable pitches. In a real attempt to ensure, as best we can, that we have more choice on which pitches we can play on we have agreed with the Cricket section that we can make a pitch running alongside of the hedge/stream at the right hand side of the clubhouse (for exclusive use of the under 12) we have also obtained clearance to the pitch at Higher Poynton (sky dome).

A good start has been made for the provision of the new practice/shooting net area, the area has been cleared and prepared for the new facility to be erected, which I am sure will happen in the next weeks, if it stops raining.

I am sure that we are all looking forward to the new season and the challenges it will bring, I am sure we will see success, which we all enjoy but we must take setbacks with modesty and determination to recover and improve.

May I wish all of our teams, all of our players, all of our coaches, all of our managers and everyone involved an enjoyable and successful season, I have this very strong feeling that is it going to be one of the best.

Enjoy your sport and your club.
