Friendship Through Lacrosse - Metros 2012 USA Tour

5 Players from U12s and U14s Poynton Blackbirds Junior Section recently returned from the Stockport Metros Lacrosse Tour to Maryland USA. Ieuan Colebrook, William Wicks, Max Crowther, Joe Parker and Jack Peacock joined 15 other players from 5 local clubs to form the U13s squad. Their tour involved a busy two weeks including training sessions, 6 games and trips to Washington and Baltimore. Tom Cooper from Poynton Lacrosse Club also travelled to Maryland as one of the U13 Coaches and played a valuable and supportive role throughout the trip.

During the tour the players were hosted by families of the clubs they played. All were given a very warm welcome and made to feel part of their American families.

Despite not winning any of their games the squad put up a good fight with some very exciting matches – some played in temperatures of 40 degrees plus!

Alex Russell and Alex Huntley represented Poynton on the U15’s Metros Tour. The U15 Metro squad played 6 exciting games and the final score lines reflected the hard fought games. The highlight of the games was beating AYLA 9 – 7 on a hot, sunny evening and the whole team stormed the pitch after the final whistle including the very animated coaches!

The whole squad benefited from the chance to play so much lacrosse over 2 weeks. Alex Russell was awarded the Les Grainger Award for the ‘U15 Most Valuable Player’ by the home team at the final friendship game.
